Survey

Population survey for accident prevention

The BFU is committed to the safety of the Swiss population with the aim of preventing accidents. Fewer accidents mean less personal suffering and also reduce the burden on the healthcare system. Understanding the behaviour and attitudes of the population is key to developing effective prevention measures.

Recording the behaviour and attitudes of the population

Targeted accident prevention is aligned with the needs of the population and dependent on broad acceptance. This is why the BFU is recording the risks that the public feel exposed to, the areas in which they are already behaving safely and the prevention measures that they support. The research project “Population Survey for Accident Prevention” is being conducted for this purpose.

The BFU is surveying some 4000 randomly selected Swiss residents to gather data on their behaviour and attitudes towards accident prevention. The findings help identify accident focal points and develop prevention measures.

For statistical reasons, only the randomly selected individuals may participate in the survey. The random selection is based on the sample register of the Federal Statistical Office FSO.

Survey in collaboration with MIS Trend

The BFU has commissioned the opinion research agency MIS Trend in Lausanne with carrying out the survey. The survey is available in German, French, Italian and English. Participation is voluntary and all data is treated with the strictest confidentiality.
